Knowing how to counter every unit your Terran opponent can use against you is one of the keys to play a Zerg versus Terran match successfully.
Most often you will face a combined force of Marines and Marauders, sometimes backed up by Siege tanks and Medivacs. But sometimes you will encounter other units like Thors or Banshees which can be very difficult to pull off – so it is necessary to know the right defense.

When defending against Marine rush, use Zerglings and Queen. Depending on the size of opponent`s forces, you can also add one or two Spine crawlers or bring your Drones to help.Zerglings are weak against mass Marines, but you can succeed when you outnumber and surround them. Be sure to upgrade Metabolic Boost.
Roaches provide a good counter – but be careful as your opponent will probably use Marauders against the Roaches. The best option will be
Banelings - their explosions decimate groups of Marines easily. Just use them in combination with Zerglings for example – to provide a cover and counter additional Terran units like Marauders and Siege tanks.Use
Infestor`s Fungal growth on groups of Marines. And if the game continues into late stages, both
Ultralisks and
Brood lords are very effective against them.
Zerglings are great versus Marauders but use them in combination with other units – Banelings, Hydralisks etc. (your opponent will probably use Marines as well).Use
Mutalisks – Marauders can`t attack air. Just be careful if there are also Marines.

Use
Roaches to protect your mineral lines – upgrade their movement speed or even Burrow to make traps for the Reapers.Place Overlords around your base to spot incoming Reapers.Zerglings are quite weak against them – but can catch them on creep and with Metabolic boost upgraded even out of creep.
Mutalisks are safe against Reapers.

Spot cloaked Ghosts with
Overseers. You can also use a Fungal growth to reveal them.

Block the entries to your base with
Roaches and
Queens to prevent harassing. When in trouble, place
Spine crawlers to your mineral lines.Or hunt them with
Mutalisks.

Use Zerglings and
Mutalisks - but the tanks will be probably guarded by Marines so be careful. Mostly you will also need some other units like Banelings to counter the Terran infantry. You can also use upgraded Roaches to move underground and unburrow below the tanks – or set a trap somewhere on the map.

Counter them with
Zerglings and destroy them one by one. Surround them whenever possible. You can also control them by
Infestor`s Neural parasite.

You won`t meet Vikings that often in a ZvT. When your opponent tries to hunt your Overlords, keep the protected with
Hydralisks (with Grooved Spines upgrade) or place some
Spore crawlers and use
Queens also.

Get
Hydralisks or
Mutalisks as quickly as possible. Morph also some
Overseers to counter cloaked Banshees. You can also use Queen and Spore crawlers when desperate. The key is effective scouting – when your opponent rushes you with Banshees and your have only Zerglings and Roaches it is pretty much GG.

During the early stages of the game use
Queen and
Spore crawlers to repel them.Attack with
Mutalisks or
Hydralisks and spread your forces as much as possible or try to run away from Seeker missiles.

When facing a lot of Battlecruisers, be patient and don`t engage them until the circumstances are in your favor.Build a large force of
Corruptors and Hydralisks
with Grooved spines and try to catch the BCs when they`re alone and in the open.Focus fire is really important here, also don`t let the Battlecruisers escape.
Do you use some other counters to stop the Terran units? Tell us about them in the comments
