En Taro Tassadar, brave Protoss warrior! Have you finally decided to choose them as your main race? Or just want to hear about their playing style and advantages to make the right decision?
My goal is to provide you with an quick overview what the Protoss race can offer you – let`s start!
powerful units
Probe can build multiple structures at once
Plasma Shields regenerate
Warpgate can warp units into the psionic matrix anywhere on the map
Photon Cannons can attack both ground and air and are also detectors
effective spells
expensive and long build times
buildings must be placed inside psionic matrix (and go offline when the matrix is removed)
Plasma Shields are destroyed quite fast and Protoss are unable to heal their hit points
heavy vespene consumption
Protoss offer you several aspects that will make your playing much easier compared to the other races – for example you can manage all your building actions with just one probe and then return to mining with it. Or the Cannon – an universal defense which is not expensive and can also serve as a detector. Controlling strong and durable Protoss units is also easier than vulnerable Terran forces or large Zerg armies.
Probes can start building multiple structures at once.
In StarCraft 1, the Protoss were called "the countering race" – simply because it was absolutely necessary to know what your opponent is doing to get the right tech and defend yourself. It`s really not that hard in StarCraft 2 but you have to be still very careful to spot some dangerous units like Marauders or Roaches on time.
In most of the games you will probably rely on a combination of Zealots, Stalkers and Immortals / Colossi / High Templar, depending on the unit mix your opponent is using. But Protoss also offer a lot of interesting and funny strategies that can be actually very effective – for example aerial builds with Void Rays and Phoenixes, Dark Templar rush or even Mothership tactics!
You can use a lot of tricky strategies when playing Protoss.
